HOW TO AVOID STREET FUNDRAISERS?

first of all, i don't want to sound like an *hole and convert people to anti-charity thinking and all the stuff like that, they all are doing a great job for the good cause, but... sometimes those street fundraisers are soo annoying! i used to work as a fundraiser for a few weeks, and was terrified when found out that most of the people working there don't even know what are they signing people up for! some of them don't care about helping poor, or treating diseases or anything except of how much commission are they going to get. shocking!.

so when these people are coming up to you and are asking to spare a minute to help someone (they actually mean 10-15 minutes to sign you up for a monthly donation) you don't want to be rude and kill this nice and caring, always fake-smiling person's confidence. this is why i am giving you some of the phrases to nicely avoid fundraisers:

  • perdon, no speak a ingles.. turista! (with the fake accent ;) )
  • i just signed up with your colleague a minute ago
  • i need some charity myself
  • sorry, i'm under 18
  • i'm an illegal immigrant

i would like to note once again that this tips are for people who are really broke or new to this type of financial practice and can easily be fooled into unwilling money spending. if you do have excess of money, it is probably good idea to donate a little bit to help make this world a little better. and it's nice to see that a lot of people do that in this country - the total gross annual income of all the charities in the uk is more than £50bn!

  2. they are so annoying ! I think I've used all your phrases, plus some others of my own creation like:

    - hello I'm a student so being broke is part of my daily routine

and - you do realise you're asking me to subscribe to some direct debit to help save tigers (or -aim of the charity) while children are dying every three seconds in the world. so while we were talking, about 15 kids dropped dead and you're telling me giving you money will help them live? don't you think what they really need is food, a better education system, a good government, better social services and the opportunity to discover the world. certainly money will enable them to buy food and save them a couple of days, but don't you think they'd rather learn how to fish rather than receive a fish. I think that if you really want to help your charity you should just go to the field and help them. After all isn't why you collect all that money, to make those people live easier? So why don't you go do something, and act on the world? Instead of asking for charity you could travel, see the world and cherish your fellows. Get involved !

(something like that will make them shush)
